Great essay! I had about 4-5 students in a college senior-level class turn in final papers this spring that I am almost positive were all or partially AI-generated. (One had a source list with “authors” Smith, John. And Doe, Jane.) And these, folks, are elementary education majors. Do we want teachers to teach our kids how to write when they don’t work on developing their own writing expertise, but let AI do all the work for them? Minotaurs indeed. The future to me looks bleak.

I appreciate the point about expertise. AI provides knowledge but not expertise or wisdom I might say.

I also wonder if there's more metaphors to extend relationships...the cart-and-buggy version where one is strapped to AI with blinders as to where its going or why--we just are told to keep doing what the AI says--I imagine that is the one that many a students and workers will (and are) subjected to...
